Lankavatara Sutra Study Group

Situation Former study
Details Despite being one of the texts central to Zen thought, the Lankavatara Sutra remains relatively unresearched, with no definitive study of the sutra yet available. Using the four-fascicle Lankavatara Sutra as a basic text, Prof. Tokiwa Gishin reworked Nanjō Bunyū’s Sanskrit recension and produced the first complete English and Japanese translations. Under Prof. Tokiwa’s direction, the Lankavatara Sutra Study Group is reexamining and revising this monumental body of work.
